Mavericks for Human Dignity

Mavericks

The Kansas City Mavericks teamed up with Giving the Basics over the month of January to collect donations, promote the GTB mission, and volunteer their time.

Players Cade Borchardt, Theo Calvas and Jacob Hayhurst played a friendly competition by raising donations to help those in need with hygiene products. Borchardt collected conditioner, Calvas collected deodorant, and Hayhurst collected shampoo. During all January home games, fans were encouraged to bring the item corresponding to their favorite player or place a monetary donation as a way of casting their vote for the competition. The Mavericks raised over $1,000 and coming in the lead was team Borchardt.

On January 20th, the Mavericks invited family and friends of GTB to their home game. Fans were educated on the GTB mission and Giving the Basics Board Member, Bill Marshall, had the honor of dropping the puck to start the game. Donations were raised, but most importantly, more people in the community learned that necessities, such as hygiene products, don’t come easy for some people.

To wrap up the month-long partnership, on January 22nd, Maverick players and their mascot, Mac, came to Giving the Basics to volunteer their time. They toured the warehouse and sorted and packaged product.

We are so thankful for this partnership and appreciate the KC Mavericks for their leadership and willingness to shine a light on us!

KMBC Partners with Giving the Basics – 2023 Virtual Drive

KMBC Cares for Kids and Giving the Basics are teaming up for a Spring Hygiene Drive. The goal is to raise enough money for basic hygiene items – soap, deodorant, laundry detergent for 1,000 children in our community. A $20 donation will provide basic items for one student for a month and $240 for an entire year.

With your help, Giving the Basics provides the necessities of life, not covered by government assistance programs, that most people take for granted. Hygiene products help students avoid being rejected or bullied and it allows them to be able to come to school with their heads held high; better prepared to learn. Your support makes it possible to eliminate humiliation, promote learning and offer hope. When you embrace Giving the Basics you embrace human dignity for all people. Let’s reach our goal of $20,000!

All About Shampoo — Our July Product Of The Month

sham·poo

noun
  1. a liquid preparation containing detergent or soap for washing the hair. “he smelt clean, of soap and shampoo”

AKA: Giving the Basic’s Product of the Month!

Let’s admit it, no one wants greasy hair. Some people wash their hair once a week, twice a week, and sometimes even every day. It’s quite the essential for living out our daily lives in public, however some people don’t have the luxury to keep their hair clean that often. Some people can’t even afford to wash their hair once a week due to the fact that government assistant programs do not cover basic items such as hygiene products… unfortunately, shampoo falls under this category.

We have good news though! You can help students and professionals go to work and school with clean hair! Every month, Giving the Basics has a product of the month. For June, we are celebrating shampoo!

Here are two options to help fight greasy and unclean hair!
